Tripoli: The Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries in the Government of National Unity, Nasr al-Din al-Fazzani, recently held discussions with the Mayor of Ghadames, Yaqoub Dawi, to assess the progress of the Ministry’s initiatives aimed at bolstering the tourism sector and safeguarding heritage in the municipality.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli. The agenda revolved around enhancing cooperation to implement plans that highlight Ghadames’ rich tourist and heritage sites. Discussions covered strategies to promote these sites both domestically and internationally, following the Minister’s previous visit to the city and his involvement in the third edition of Ghadames Shopping and Heritage Days. The meeting also celebrated the inclusion of the village of Tunin in the Arab Architectural and Urban Heritage Register.
The discussions extended to cover tourism development in Ghadames during the desert tourism season, focusing on improving services through the establishment of a tourist park. Additionally, the meeting addressed the completion of procedures for transferring employees from the Ministry of Local Government to the municipality.
Minister al-Fazzani reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to preserving Ghadames’ historical sites, aligning with national policies to protect Libya’s archaeological sites and cities. Emphasizing their value as a global human heritage, he noted that their preservation and development contribute significantly to the national income.
During the meeting, Minister al-Fazzani highlighted the crucial role of the Ghadames Municipality, alongside other sectors and civil society organizations, in supporting the Ministry’s efforts to develop the tourism sector and protect heritage.
