New York, The Head of the Government of National Unity Abdul Hamid Al Dbeiba has called on countries to honour their promises in Berlin 1 and 2, by respecting Libya’s sovereignty and integrity, and by acknowledging that the presence of any foreign forces on its territory endangers its integrity.

This came in remarks Al Dbeiba made at a UN Security Council session on developments in Libya on Thursday.

‘We affirm commitment by the Government of National Unity that the option of going to war has become a thing from the past, and we will seek to keep war away, and create a stable unified Libya, Al Dbeiba told the Council.

The Head of the Government said the UN Security Council’s meeting on Libya is being held under circumstances different from the past during the war. A beacon light of hope has now appeared at the end of the tunnel, for Libya to enjoy a more stable situation, especially after the unity government was set up to get the country out of conflict and war, he said.

In his briefing before the Council Al Dbeiba said the Government was able, in a relatively short period of time, to unify most of sovereign institutions under the writ of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

He appealed to the international community to offer support for the Government of National Unity’s effort to establish national reconciliation, restore confidence and stability to the country, and to execute decisions related to obstructers of the political track, nationally and abroad.
