Al-Dbaiba Reaffirms Commitment to Elections in Meeting with UN Envoy

Tripoli: Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul-Hamid Al-Dbaiba, reiterated his commitment to holding elections and ending transitional stages, emphasizing that this path represents the best way to restore legitimacy and renew institutions through the popular will. This declaration underscores the government’s focus on facilitating a democratic process in Libya.

According to Libyan News Agency, this commitment was expressed during a meeting Al-Dbaiba held with Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Libya. The meeting focused on political developments in the country and strategies to enhance both international and local efforts aimed at creating suitable conditions for general elections, promoting stability, and addressing the institutional division within Libya.

Al-Dbaiba highlighted the government’s support for the UN-led process, expressing full readiness to cooperate with the UN mission on initiatives that would expedite elections and unify national eff
orts. This cooperation is seen as a vital component in moving the country towards a more stable political environment.

Hanna Tetteh, on her part, praised the ongoing collaboration between the Libyan government and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). She reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Libya’s political process, aiming for free and inclusive elections at the earliest opportunity.
