Al-Baour and UN HRC President Discuss Cooperation in Geneva

Geneva: Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, met with the President of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), Jörg Lauber, on the sidelines of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) session at the UN Office in Geneva. During the meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination between Libya and the HRC to support national efforts aimed at promoting and protecting human rights and to continue positive engagement with the Council’s mechanisms and relevant UN bodies.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Baour expressed Libya’s appreciation for the important role of the Council in promoting the principles of justice and equality. He emphasized the Government of National Unity’s commitment to implementing relevant international recommendations and to continuing constructive cooperation with the UN through dialogue based on mutual respect and effective partnership.

Lauber welcomed Libya’s participation in the current session, commending its comprehensive
presentation and clear efforts in promoting human rights and international cooperation. He stressed the Council’s readiness to continue supporting Libya in its endeavors to achieve development and stability.

The meeting underscored the importance of continuing close consultation and cooperation between the two parties on various issues of common interest to serve the goals of the UN and enhance Libya’s standing in international forums.
