Al-Baour and Berndt Discuss Political Developments in Libya

Tripoli: The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, engaged in discussions with the Charg© d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Berndt, to review the latest developments in Libya’s political scene and to exchange views on regional and international matters of shared interest.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting explored ways to support the political process under the auspices of the United Nations, aiming to create conditions conducive to free and inclusive elections as part of Libya’s democratic transition. The dialogue also touched upon prospects for bilateral cooperation in key areas, including reconstruction, economic development, enhancing security coordination, combating organized crime, and supporting capacity-building and institutional rehabilitation programs.

The newspaper reported that Al-Baour emphasized Libya’s commitment to constructive cooperation with international partners, notably the United States, and expressed appreciation for its ongoing support of the political process and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). Meanwhile, Berndt confirmed the United States’ steadfast support for Libya’s stability and unity, reaffirming Washington’s readiness to work alongside Libyan authorities to fulfill the Libyan people’s aspirations for a democratic and secure state.
