Addis ababa: The 39th African Union Summit commenced today, Saturday, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with the participation of heads of state and government from across Africa and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. According to Libyan News Agency, the summit, themed 'Ensuring Sustainable Water and Sanitation to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,' will discuss a number of topics, most notably water security, security issues, particularly in the Sahel and Horn of Africa, and the climate change crisis and its impact on development. Over the course of two days, the summit will also address several strategic items related to strengthening the institutional performance of the African Union, the AU's membership in the G20, efforts to combat diseases and epidemics, and reform of the UN Security Council to support regional integration and enhance the capacity of AU institutions to respond to current challenges.
