Skhirat: The African Union Peace and Security Council has underscored the continued relevance of the Skhirat and Bouznika agreements in the ongoing efforts to resolve the political crisis in Libya.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Council issued a statement emphasizing that the Skhirat Agreement, which was signed in 2015 through a UN-mediated reconciliation process among Libyan factions, remains a foundational framework for achieving a lasting political resolution in the country. The Council highlighted the agreement’s role in establishing a pathway towards peace and stability in Libya.
The statement also acknowledged the progress noted in the preparations for Libya’s electoral process. This progress stems from the recent meeting of the Joint Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives and the State Council, which took place from May 22 to June 6, 2023, in Bouznika, Morocco. The discussions in Bouznika were instrumental in resolving disputes and laying down the legal groundwork necessary for the u
pcoming presidential and legislative elections in Libya.
