An Iranian delegation arrived in Basra Governorate today, Saturday, on a trial river trip across the Shatt al-Arab, and was received by the Director General of Maritime Transport and Chief Engineer of Bahrain, Ahmed Al-Asadi.
Al-Asadi said in a statement by the Ministry’s media office that a high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran arrived in Basra Governorate, via the Shatt al-Arab, on a trial river trip, which ended at the river taxi outlet in Al-Ashar.
The statement added that the head of the security committee in Basra Governorate, Aqeel Al-Furaiji, attended the reception ceremony for the Iranian delegation.
He pointed out that the delegation met with the Iranian Consul in Basra, Ali Abedi, and the Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, and the two parties discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation in the field of transportation, especially during the days of million-person visits.
Al-Asadi added that he discussed, under the direction of the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saada
wi, with the Iranian delegation the file of transporting passengers and visitors via Shatt al-Arab from the ports of (Abadan and Khorramshahr) to the port of Al-Wasiliyah and the Basra Corniche marina, stressing that work on this project will begin soon.
The Director General of Maritime Transport stressed that the experimental river trip is an important step to revive the tourism sector and transport visitors and travelers between the two countries, appreciating the efforts of the supporting government agencies that seek to make this project a success.
The two sides also discussed, according to the statement, the possibility of exchanging experiences and holding maritime training courses to qualify crews and enhance their work in this vital sector.
