US Ambassador to Libya contacts Al Dabaiba and Pashagha indicates their willingness to negotiate and carry out dialogue

Tripoli- U.S. Ambassador and Envoy to Libya Richard Norland said he spoke with the Head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Al Dabaiba, and the Head of Government set up by the House of Representatives, Fathi Pashagha, to calm tensions and negotiate a solution to the political dispute, according to two separate conversations with both parties, as part of ongoing consultations with all parties.

In a series of tweets posted on his SMS account, Norland said he spoke with Prime Minister assigned by the House of Representatives Fathi Pashagha, and praised his “willingness to calm tensions and seek to resolve the current political dispute through negotiations, not force,” stressing that “Libya’s stability and unity can only be maintained through dialogue and respect of right to freedom of movement throughout the country.”

In the second call, the U.S. Ambassador stated that he had contacted the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba last night, and expressed appreciation for his “commitment to protecting lives, as well as for his willingness to enter into negotiations to find a political solution.”
