UN Secretary-General expresses concern over security developments in Lebanon during meeting with Mikati


UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, met in New York with Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, over pressing security concerns in the region.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General expressed grave concern regarding recent security developments in Lebanon, including ongoing exchanges of fire across the Blue Line and the potential risk of a regional conflagration.

The discussions underscored the critical importance of implementing Security Council resolutions 1701 (2006), with a focus on the role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in maintaining stability in the area. The Secretary-General and Prime Minister Mikati also addressed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Lebanon, emphasizing the need for international support and cooperation.
