Director General of International Cooperation attends 48th G77, China ministerial meeting

Manama: Ambassador Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Director General for International Cooperation, participated in the 48th ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 and China, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Ambassador Al Dhaen emphasised Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with developing countries and other members of the Group of 77 and China to foster a society that contributes to the development of the Global South. She highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation mechanisms among Southern nations to achieve progress and development for all countries in the South. She called for maintaining the independence of the Group of 77 and adhering to its humanitarian principles based on cooperation and integration.

The Director General referred to the outcomes of the Third South Summit held in Kampala, Uganda, stressing the significance of solidarity and unity in addressing global challenges such as poverty, hunger, climate change, and economic dete
rioration. She affirmed Bahrain’s dedication to collaborating with the international community to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ambassador Al Dhaen further underscored the importance of cooperation among Southern countries to enhance innovation and build capacities, noting Bahrain’s belief that sustainable development and peace are intrinsically linked. She emphasised the role of dialogue and mutual understanding in fostering a culture of peace.

She reiterated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s call for an international peace conference, reaffirming Bahrain’s steadfast support for the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and international legitimacy resolutions.

Ambassador Al Dhaen also affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at global development and reiterated the Kingdom’s dedication to close cooperation in achieving
the SDGs, supporting humanitarian and development efforts worldwide.
