BRCS participates in ‘Migration Network’ meeting in Dubai

Dubai, The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) actively took part in the fourth annual gathering of the Migration Network in the Middle East and North Africa, recently held in the Emirate of Dubai.

Dr. Fawzi Amin, the representative of the International Federation of Red Crescent Societies and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, attended the event. Representing the Society was Ali Ahmed Modon, Chairman of the Public Relations and Membership Affairs Committee, alongside delegates from sixteen other National Societies.

This meeting, which brought together national societies from the Middle East and North Africa and the Regional Office of Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies, aimed to facilitate the exchange of experiences and foster relationships among the participating organizations. Additionally, the attendees discussed several key areas of mutual interest related to humanitarian services for displaced populations.

During the two-day conference, discussions revolved around the roles of National Societies in their interactions with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and migrants. The initial day concentrated on the outcomes of a capacity survey designed to identify the most pertinent training requirements for effective responses. This day also delved into planning the upcoming Working Group on Global Migration meeting. A field trip to Dubai’s Sustainable City was organized, offering insights into the city’s design methodology, natural resource utilization, waste recycling, and maximizing environmental benefits.

On the second day, a series of workshops addressed the impact of climate change on migration and displacement. These sessions aimed to enhance comprehension of how climate change intersects with migration and conflict. The forum discussed the establishment of humanitarian service points, recognized as a prominent model for meeting the fundamental needs of refugees and migrants along their journey to safe havens. Speakers provided guidance on setting up and operating these service points. Additionally, experiences from the Egyptian, Libyan, and Lebanese Red Crescent were shared, detailing the activation, equipment, and functioning of these points, particularly concerning their responses to refugee groups.

Bahrain Red Crescent’s involvement in the conference underscores its commitment to exchanging best practices and experiences. Its participation is integral to developing national strategies aimed at overcoming challenges faced by refugees across Member States. The emphasis remains on strengthening collaborations between public authorities overseeing migration and asylum and humanitarian service providers. Bahrain Red Crescent reaffirmed its preparedness to offer essential guidance and support in areas related to displacement and asylum.
