Bash-Agha receives a phone call from the Secretary-General of the United Nations

Tunis, March 17, 2022 (LANA) – The Prime Minister of the Libyan government, designated by the House of Representatives, Fathi Bash-Agha, received today, Thursday, a phone call from United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Gutierrez.

Bash-Agha said in a tweet on his Twitter account that the call dealt with the current situation in Libya, during which she stressed that the government’s main goal is elections and achieving the aspirations of the Libyan people.

The Libyan Prime Minister-designate from the House of Representatives added that Secretary-General “Antonio Gutierrez” stressed the need to maintain stability in Libya, praising the clear support the government received when it was assigned.

The two sides stressed the need to cooperate with the United Nations Support Mission and Adviser to the Secretary-General, Stephanie Williams, during the coming period.

For his part, United Nations Spokesman Stephan Dujarric said – in a press statement today – that the two sides discussed the latest developments in Libya, noting that Gutierrez expressed his deep concern about the ongoing political polarization in Libya, which carries great risks to Libyan stability.

According to Dujarric, Gutierrez stressed the need for all actors to commit to maintaining calm and stability on the ground, while emphasizing the United Nations’ categorical rejection of the use of violence, intimidation and hate speech.
