Written question – VP/HR – Involving young people in the prevention of radicalisation in third countries – E-002330/2018

On 24 April 2018, Unesco and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre launched a project on the ‘Prevention of Violent Extremism through Youth Empowerment in Jordan, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia’. The project is co-funded by the Canadian Government and its objective is to support youth-led action being taken on the ground, in the fields of culture, education and the media, to tackle violent extremism.

On 14 September 2017, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, announced the introduction of a programme with similar objectives targeting North Africa and the Middle East. The second component of this programme also aims to involve young people from these regions in efforts to tackle the triggers of violent extremism.

Eight months after the launch of her programme, can the VP/HR report any meaningful results?

Will the VP/HR coordinate her measures with the Unesco programme to generate synergies and make the fight against radicalisation more effective?
