US ambassador to Libya confirms that Blinken’s participation in meeting on Libya is evidence of support for elections.

Washington, “The participation of the United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, in the ministerial meeting on Libya during the current 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly was another high-level evidence of the United States’ support for Libya, as it is now seriously preparing for the upcoming December 24 elections. It is also evidence that there is no turning back. ” The meeting was hosted by France, Germany and Italy on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations. It was attended by the foreign ministers of the countries participating in the Berlin process, in addition to Libya’s regional neighbours and representatives of the United Nations was held before the end of last week. In a report published on its social media account, the US embassy stated that Secretary Blinken affirmed the United States’ support for a sovereign, stable, united, and secure Libya without foreign interference.

The Secretary emphasized the United States’ support for the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya on December 24 and urged Libyan leaders to take the necessary steps to ensure that these elections are free and fair as outlined in the LPDF roadmap, including the need for agreement on Constitutional and legal framework.

Secretary Blinken also emphasized United States support for the full implementation of the Libyan ceasefire agreed in October 2020, including the removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries as required by UN Security Council Resolution 2570.

The Secretary stressed the United States’ support for the renewal of the mandate of the Independent Fact-Finding Mission in Libya of the United Nations Human Rights Council, for the purpose of documenting human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian law, and stressed the need to ensure unimpeded access for the mission.
