UN Secretary-General welcomes agreement reached by Military Committee (5+5) in Geneva .

New York, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the agreement reached by the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5) in Geneva last Friday on a comprehensive plan of action for the gradual, balanced and sequential withdrawal of mercenaries, foreign fighters and foreign forces from Libyan territory .

Guterres said, in a statement published by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Tuesday, that the action plan is the cornerstone of the implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed in October 2020. He praised the unity of purpose that dominated the meetings of the Joint Military Committee (5+5), calling on all Libyan and international parties to work for the implementation of this plan.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed his confidence that the deployment of an initial team of United Nations ceasefire monitors would contribute to creating the necessary conditions for the successful implementation of the Action Plan, reiterating United Nations’ unwavering commitment to supporting the Libyan people.
