The Russian embassy confirms its readiness to support the course of the elections in Libya

The Russian Embassy in Libya affirmed Moscow’s readiness to support the course of the elections in Libya, as well as efforts aimed at making the expected electoral processes a success.

This came during a meeting with the President of the High Electoral Commission, Imad Al-Sayeh, at the Commission’s headquarters in Tripoli, today, Sunday, with a delegation from the Russian Embassy in Libya.

The delegation included: Minister Plenipotentiary of the Embassy Jamshid Poltaev, Counselor of the Embassy Aldar Yafarov, Director of Public Relations at the Embassy Akram Ezzara,

The Electoral Commission said in a statement that the visit comes within the framework of reviewing the Commission’s readiness to implement the elections planned to be held during the current year.

He added: “The Russian delegation was briefed on the capabilities available to the commission and the practical and technical preparations that were taken to implement an electoral process that is subject to international standards and principles recognized in the implementation of the poll.”

The Commission Council briefed the Russian delegation on the terms of reference of the Commission as a neutral, technical executive department that has no political role, and its mission is limited to implementing electoral legislation and laws that are referred to it by the House of Representatives, according to the statement.

The commission indicated that the meeting dealt with the Russian experience with regard to the implementation of electoral processes and the mechanisms and institutions supervising their implementation.
