The President of the Republic confirms his support for establishing strong relations between the federal government and the KRG

The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed his support for establishing strong relations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

A presidential statement said that the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and the accompanying delegation.

The statement explained that, during the meeting, the general conditions in the country, their developments, and developments in the region were discussed, as the President stressed the necessity of consolidating security and stability as a basic pillar for the advancement of the country at various levels, especially in the economic, service, and livelihood fields for citizens, noting the importance of supporting the government to implement its ministerial program in realizing the aspirations of citizens.

The President of the Republic pointed out the importance of visits between the federal government a
nd the Kurdistan Regional Government to reach common understandings and strengthen the foundations of constructive and effective dialogue between the two sides to resolve outstanding issues in accordance with the Constitution and the law and guarantee the interests of all citizens, pointing to the necessity of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two sides because of its direct impact on resolving common issues and focus on construction, reconstruction and development projects in the country.

The President expressed his support for establishing strong relations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, praising the ongoing cooperation and coordination at various levels in order to overcome obstacles.

The statement indicated that, during the meeting, they also discussed the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani to the United States and its results that lead to developing relations between the two countries and enhancing cooperation, especially in the f
ield of combating terrorism and supporting Iraq in the economic and commercial fields.

The statement continued that the meeting also touched on the Turkish President’s visit to Iraq and his meeting with the President and senior officials in the country and the resulting signing of memorandums of understanding that contribute to resolving the outstanding issues between the two countries, stimulating trade exchange and setting the necessary frameworks for implementing the development road project.

The President of the Republic and the President of the Kurdistan Region expressed their condemnation of the targeting of the Kormor gas field in the city of Sulaymaniyah, stressing that such criminal acts represent an infringement on national sovereignty and a threat to the country’s security and stability.

For his part, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, stressed the importance of dialogue to resolve outstanding issues, and joint coordination on various priority issues, especially related to
citizens’ living and service requirements.

Barzani added that the regional government has the desire and will to resolve all issues in a way that ensures justice and transparency and consolidates security and stability in the country.
