On November 12, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan administered the oath of office to new members of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB). Anita B. McBride is re-appointed, and Donna L. Brazile, Maneesh K. Goyal, and Joseph L. Falk join the 12-member FFSB to oversee the worldwide Fulbright Program. The Board will officially welcome the four members on November 13 during its 265th quarterly meeting.
Donna L. Brazile is the Founder and Managing Director of Brazile & Associates LLC. She is a Democratic political strategist, Vice Chair of Voter Registration and Participation at the Democratic National Committee, author, syndicated columnist, and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University. She is a regular commentator on CNN, a consultant to ABC News, and has lectured at a number of colleges, including Harvard University and the University of Maryland. Brazile received a B.A. from Louisiana State University. President Barack Obama appointed Brazile to the Fulbright Board on September 29, 2014.
Maneesh K. Goyal is Founder and President of event marketing agency MKG, and co-founder of Live in the Grey, a consultancy focused on workplace culture. He serves on the U.S. Advisory Council for the American India Foundation. He previously served on the board of directors of the Empire State Pride Agenda, LifeBeat, the South Asian American Forum, and the Stonewall Community Foundation. Goyal received a B.A. from Duke University and an M.P.H. from Yale University. President Obama appointed Goyal to the Fulbright Board on October 22, 2014.
Joseph L. Falk is a policy consultant with the law firm of Akerman LLP and a licensed mortgage originator. He is a past president and legislative chairman of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers. He is vice chairman of the Board and capital campaign chairman of the Miami Science Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate, as well as a Board member of the national Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund. Falk is a 1976 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, and received his MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1978. President Obama appointed Falk to the Fulbright Board on August 18, 2014.
Anita B. McBride is Executive in Residence at the School of Public Affairs at The American University. She was first appointed to the FFSB by President George W. Bush in 2009, serving as Chair from 2010 to 2012. McBride’s government service spans two decades and four presidential Administrations in both the Department of State and the White House including as Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff to First Lady Laura Bush from 2005 to 2009 guiding the First Lady’s efforts in human rights, women’s empowerment, global health and education. McBride is a member of the U.S.–Afghan Women’s Council as well as the International Republican Institute’s Women’s Democracy Network, and serves on the boards of the White House Historical Association and the National Italian American Foundation. She received a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Connecticut and studied at the University of Florence, Italy. President Obama reappointed her to the Fulbright Board on August 28, 2014.
