Tripoli, The National Youth Forum kicked off at the Rixos Hotel in Tripoli on Saturday, in the presence of the President of the Presidential Council Mohamed Al Mnefi and around 1,500 youth representing different cities and regions from across Libya under the theme “This is our time.”
The opening of the forum was also attended by a number of ambassadors of brotherly and friendly countries, representatives of United Nations agencies, organizations and bodies operating in Libya, as well as civil society organizations in Libya.
In a speech he delivered at the opening of the forum, Al Mnefi announced approval of the forum to be held annually as one of the main pillars of the national reconciliation program and to enhance youth participation in its meetings and activities in all cities.
In his speech, the President reiterated his support for all political initiatives concerned with the youth in the Libyan villages and regions, so that youth would be the backbone of life in all institutions and contribute effectively to decision-making.
Al-Mnefi affirmed that this great presence of young people and the previous dialogue sessions reflect that young people alone are the bet for the present and the mainstay of the future, and that they are qualified to take their rightful place in the state institutions and build a new era for the Libyan state.
In his speech, the President of the Presidential Council praised the participation of women and their active and distinguished presence through the preparation committees through women’s competencies and standing side by side with men in building the free homeland.
Al-Mnefi explained that the Presidential Council, since assuming responsibility, has succeeded in consolidating the ceasefire in our country, unifying institutions, supporting the work of the 5 + 5 Committee, opening the coastal highway, establishing the High Commission for National Reconciliation, bringing the parties together and healing the rift in order to preserve community peace.
The President renewed Presidential Council’s support for free, transparent and fair presidential and parliamentary elections, whose results reflect the will of the Libyan people, noting that the Council is aware of the difficulties facing our country and the fear of returning to conflicts that exhausted Libyans and doubled their troubles.
