Rome-President of Presidency Council, Fayez Asserraj met in Rome Tuesday with the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte in the presence of the delegation accompanying the president and Italian officials. According to the media office of the Presidency Council the talks covered developments and repercussions of the attack on Tripoli. At the outset of the talks Asserraj praised the stance of Italy which was clear in condemning the aggression on Tripoli, he also hailed the special relations linking Libya and Italy embodied in many stances. He also praised Italy's humanitarian contribution during the war waged by the GNC against ISIS in Serte and elsewhere and its support to the Libyan coast guard and effective contribution to the illegal immigration file. He also praised the opening of the Italian embassy in Tripoli which is still open despite the current crisis. Asseraj said he does not doubt the keen interest of the Italian government to restoring stability in Libya, asking the Italian friends to make more efforts due to the position of Italy and its leverage and international weight that can make a positive change of European and regional hesitant stances to speed up halt of the aggression and return of the attacking forces to their bases and spare Libyans more bloodshed. Conte welcomed Asserraj and renewed the stance of Italy supportive of GNA, stressing that there is no military solution to the Libyan crisis, stressing the need to return to the political track. Conte said Italy realizes that the war could expand and could cause harm to Libya and the region, saying his country's efforts would not stop until prompt and just end to the bloodshed is found. The talks also covered bilateral cooperation to contain repercussions of the aggression on security and economic fields. President of Presidency Council arrived in Rome Monday on brief visit to Italy heading a delegation comprising foreign and interior ministers and the president political and national security advisors, head of counter terrorism agency and the ambassadors of Libya to Rome and the EU.
