Tripoli, Italy’s Nova news agency, citing Libyan sources, disclosed a visit to Italy next month by the attorney general, Al Sidiq Al Sour.
Nova said Al Sour would discuss “a number of issues on the table with Italian public prosecutor’s office of the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Anti-Mafia Directorate.
The Agency reported that Al Sour was supposed to visit Rome in September, but the visit was later postponed. The talks are expected to focus on mutual legal assistance and the latest findings of Libyan prosecutors’ investigations into the response to transnational organized crime, including the results of measures to counter the activity of groups that organize illegal migration and human trafficking.
The Italian agency pointed out that Libya and Italy have long been negotiating an agreement to deport defendants sentenced to prison, noting that the Libyan side is particularly demanding some amendments to the text of the agreement, to allow deportation of four football players imprisoned since 2015 on charges of human trafficking and illegal immigration, according to the agency.
