Next Week.. Celebrating The Official Launch Of The Iraqi-Gulf Electrical Connection

The Gulf Interconnection Authority announced, today, Wednesday, that it will hold a ceremony to mark the start of electrical interconnection with Iraq in the Saudi city of al-Khobar, early next week.

The CEO of the Gulf Electrical Interconnection Authority, Eng. Ahmed Al-Ibrahim, said, in a press statement, that “the celebration of the start of the electrical interconnection with Iraq comes with the beginning of the implementation of the interconnection contract between the Gulf interconnection network and the electricity network in southern Iraq,” pointing out that “the project, which is expected to operate next year, will contribute to consolidating cooperation between the GCC countries and Iraq and supporting energy security for southern Iraq.”

He pointed out that “contracts for the implementation of the connection with Iraq include the establishment of electrical linkage lines by the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority from Wafra station of the authority in the State of Kuwait to Al-Faw station in southern Iraq, to supply southern Iraq with about 500 megawatts of energy from the GCC countries through the interconnection Gulf Electricity network, noting that the new electrical interconnection lines that will be established will provide a total transmission capacity of 1800 megawatts,” pointing out: “The project is one of the strategic projects that strengthen cooperation in the economic and social fields between the countries of the Cooperation Council and Iraq.”
