Venezuela reports violence, loss of life cause for concern
The UN Secretary-General has expressed concern over new reports of violence and loss of life in Venezuela.
Media reports say the crisis in the South American country escalated after the killing of a young boy during anti-government protests.
Ban Ki-moon commended the Government for promising to undertake a full investigation.
Efforts to re-launch talks between the Government and opposition are being led by the Secretary General of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and the Holy See.
UN special envoy visits Syrian refugees in Lebanon
The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Sigrid Kaag said the UN continues to support the country as it faces the impact of the Syrian crisis.
Over 400,000 refugees from Syria are being hosted in the north-eastern Bekaa Valley.
Ms Kaag visited a site where she spoke to some of the refugees.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Lebanese authorities and host communities for their generosity and solidarity.
UN launches education programme for Syrian youth
A programme to continue to provide education for Syrian youth affected by the war has been launched by the UN education and cultural agency UNESCO.
“Bridging the Learning Gaps for Youth” will run for two years and will support access to quality secondary and higher education, teacher training not only in Syria but also in places like Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq.
Since the beginning of the conflict in Syria, more than 3 million children and youth have been forced out of school.
