EMSC Western Montana Nov 15 06:58 3.9 10 MAP I Felt It
  • Kalispell – Shook the house for 3-4 seconds and sounded like a strong wind.
  • Whitefish MT – 4-8 seconds vibration sound light then shaking. Felt like 5.0 depending on center
  • Whitefish – Low rumbling sound with rattling. Shaking on the bottom floor, swaying on the top floor.
  • Kalispell – No damage. Sounded like a sonic boom. Felt a sensation of rolling feeling on the floor…very mild. Lasted ?5 seconds. No rattling or structural affect heard in house.
  • Hungry horse – No damage, felt rumbling for 4 seconds, watched clock on wall move, it felt like a herd of animals running by
  • Hungry Horsr – Rumbling for maybe 10 seconds like an airplane just missing the roof or a truck hitting the building ( it’s on a concrete slab), which was vibrating.
  • Whitefish – Felt like an extremely powerful chinook/blizzard wind, causing the house at the roofline to shift in a way that felt alarming as if the house wasn’t stable. Lasted about 4-5 seconds.
  • whitefish, mt – My location less than 1/4 mile from epicenter at surface, rough uneven jouncing, amplitude of pulses varied unevenly, enough to shake pans, dishes and cabinet doors-about 5 seconds.(like a washboard dirt road with a hard sprung pickup)(sound resembled a KC-135 starting to take off in -50 temp, a crackling roar from about a half mile).I’ll check at first light to see if the rotten tops of drought stricken birches have broke off or not.
  • Whitefish – “Felt like a car hit our house!”
  • Whitefish – My house shook with what sounded and felt like rumbling from a freight train for 4 to 5 seconds.
  • Whitefish – shook the bed and floors and felt like a wave rolling under the house
  • Columbia Falls – a good shake – lots of loud noise. Never experienced an earthquake before. At first I thought the clothes washer was running unbalanced, but then it became much more shaking than the washer could do and it felt like it was coming from the basement. With the loud noises as well I thought something had blown up but couldn’t find any evidence of fire or explosion. Then we learned it was an earthquake in Whitefish, MT.
  • Whitefish – Felt the house shake with an accompanying dull roar. I could feel the walls sway back and forth just slightly. 10-15 seconds it was over. First experience for me. I immediately googled it without any results,so I questioned if it wasn’t something else, like a very high wind and maybe a large tree branch hit the house.
  • Whitefish – The house completely shook. Windows rattled and decorative plates on the wall rattled. The bed I was in shook. No damage to report.
  • Whitefish, MT – Used to live in Alaska so am familiar with earthquakes. House shook, things rattled, no damage, lasted 8 to 10 seconds.
  • Whitefish – House rumbled underfoot
  • Whitefish – Very close to epicenter large boom as it hit and shook the house like something exploded…then 4 light rolls only took about 4 seconds…no damage
  • Columbia Falls – We live up the North Fork near Blankenship rd and felt the quake as we were in bed. It sounded like a loud engine roaring close to the house and then the bed and walls shook for about 5 seconds. Intense.
  • Columbia Falls – Awoke to noise sounding like an jet low overhead (with kind of a pulsating sound) and slight shaking of the bed for 5-10 seconds.
  • Kalispell – No damage, vibration throughout house for 5 seconds
  • kalispell – it was like a Chinook wind but yet not coming from the right direction and then rolling and swim like movement of the room and then silence
  • kalispell – Woke me up. Felt like the bed was shaking back and forth. Loud noise like something hit the house. Dishes and cupboards made noise and light fixtures swayed. Made my dogs bark.
  • Kalispell – First time I felt afraid during an earthquake. Shook the house and felt like we were riding a wave.
  • Columbia Falls – Sounded like a real loud boom, like a big thud. Not like an explosion, but it sounded like a huge rock, the size of our house, fell out of the sky.
  • Whitefish – Entire house shook, but nothing well off walls or tables.
  • Evergreen – Very loud sonic boom sound and our bed shook for about 5 seconds. We live close to Glacier International Airport and the first thing I thought of was a plane went down.
  • Columbia Falls, Mt – Pulsating roar lasting 4 to 5 seconds starting from north traveling to south. Rattled wall mounted items and cabinet items.
  • Whitefish, MT – I was sound asleep when it felt like something picked our house up and dropped it. There was also a loud noise like an explosion. I thought maybe our motor home had exploded in our driveway. I have not detected any damage. We live 3 miles east of Whitefish.
  • Kalispell – Woke to what sounded like an explosion. Checked all around the house and look at all the neighbors houses expecting to see one on fire. Didn’t find out about earthquake til morning.
  • Marion at home – Was awake at midnight and felt the quake. It was recognizable because we there had been a hard jolt on Tuesday the 11th. The shake otherwise would have been thought to be a double axial truck going by on our dirt road. No damage noted. No damage from Tuesdays jolt that I know of.
  • lakeside – Bed shook enough to wake me up. I heard the windows rattle. I guess it lasted maybe 10 second s or less.

  • Whitefish – I was sitting on a couch on our 2nd floor of our 3 story home. I heard a rumbling noise and my big strong sturdy home was shaking. It was pretty strange, I googled it right away and found nothing. Later saw on facebook that others felt it in Kalispell. Glad to hear that others felt it too, wondered also if it was an effect from a sonic boom, but really thought it was an earthquake. My first experience with feeling an earthquake. Saw the effects of a small one when my children were small.
  • Kalispell – My house creaked loudly first on the north side then on the south side which woke me up. At first I thought it was a strong wind, but then I noticed a low deep rumbling sound for about five seconds and felt some shaking.
  • Marion – The house shook for 5 to 10 seconds and there was a slight rattle sound.
  • Columbia Falls MT – Woke me up. Felt the Bed Move and Motel Shift. Herd a Sonic Crack and Rumble outside.
  • Kalispell – Very strong shaking knocked items off counter my trailer home shook violently. Very loud sonic boom. Lasted about 5 or 6 seconds. Trees swayed outside. Scared me!
  • Whitefish – woke us up. I was impressed by the sound. no damage.
  • Superior – One person in our family whose wooden bed is on an uncarpeted floor woke up at 12:04 Mountain time because her bed was shaking/rattling.
