Tripoli, GNA Minister of Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdel Rahman chaired yesterday in Tripoli the 2021 Joint Meeting of Justice and Security of the Board of Directors, implemented by the United Nations, together with the Regional Representative of the United Nations Development Programme.

The meeting was attended by ambassadors and representatives of Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and France, the Director of the Joint Project of the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Office for Human Rights, representatives of national authorities and the directors of the departments and offices of the Ministries of Justice and Interior.

Minister Halima Abdel Rahman explained that the Ministry of Justice, as responsible for the administration of the justice, and protection of human rights, was tasked with modernizing and developing the criminal justice system in cooperation with international partners, where it initiated and presented proposals that it considers to be of particular importance to the justice sector and a national priority in general. .

She added that the ministry has carried out some activities, including a national campaign against torture, the publication of a guide and a quarterly magazine dealing with international humanitarian law and other work related to reform and rehabilitation institutions and information technology systems for justice and security systems and case tracking.

For his part, the UNDP Regional Representative reviewed the stages of work on the Joint Programme for Justice and Police and the cooperation of concerned states and national actors in this context,

Ambassadors and representatives of countries supporting the joint program also stressed their keenness to move forward in providing the necessary technical programs to bring about change, help Libya at this stage and support capabilities that will activate Libyan state institutions to reach a stage that can ensure security, stability and the rule of law are upheld.

The meeting included a visual presentation by the UNDP Joint Venture Manager on the phases of the programme, project implementation steps and the achievements through which they were implemented.

It also opened the door to discussion and remarks by participants in the meeting.
