JCDC, U.S. WRAIR, HJFMRI talk infectious disease research cooperation

Head of Jordanian National Centre for Epidemics and Communicable Diseases Control (JCDC), Raeda Qutob, on Wednesday discussed with a delegation from Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) and Henry M Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) Medical Research International (HJFMRI), joint cooperation In the field of emerging infectious disease research. According to a JCDC statement, the meeting also discussed cooperation within One Health approach to enhance disease monitoring, development of preventive measures and clinical research, future cooperation in the fields of scientific research and monitoring on emerging diseases, building worker capacities in the field of combating pandemics and communicable diseases in various national institutions. Qutob noted the center is looking forward to launching cooperation with the two U.S. bodies in areas related to JCDC’s main tasks, primarily supervising development and implementation of strategies to control antibiotic resistance, specifically in the common diseases field, and steps to coordinate monitoring efforts within One Health approach and network with global efforts in this regard. This cooperation also seeks to research, which would contribute to preparing evidence-based health policies to control pandemics and communicable diseases, she pointed out. JCDC, she noted, seeks to create an e-platform that collects relevant research data in a coordinated manner to be made available to relevant stakeholders, primarily researchers, policy makers, program planners, media and the public, which would facilitate cooperation between the relevant national institutions. For her part, WRAIR’s Chief Science Officer, Dr. Karen Patterson, expressed willingness to cooperate with JCDC in various fields.
