The Italian Chief of Defense Staff, “Giuseppe Dragoni,” said that the Russian military “Wagner” group exercises great influence in Libya, the Central African Republic, and Burkina Faso, and that its members are stationed near Libyan mines and oil fields.

“Dragoni” added, in statements reported by the Italian news agency AKI, that the influence of “Wagner” is great almost everywhere, and with the passage of days, its presence as a political and military force alike increases, and wherever Western countries withdraw, it fills the void.

“Dragoni” continued, saying that “Wagner” is an element that must be taken into account, stressing that it is a well-armed squad and almost all of its members are Russian mercenaries with good wages, and they represent an unusual and more solid mechanism from the point of view of motivation and method of work.

“Dragoni” indicated that the “Wagner” group is a new element that has implications for the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and may have been present in Sudan as well, supporting the pro-Putin faction,” he said.
