Tripoli: The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the reopening of the Iraqi Embassy in Libya yesterday and appointed Dr. Ahmed Al-Sahaf as the Head of the Iraqi Mission in Libya.

The Ministry said on its Facebook page that this step comes in the context of activating terms of the government program and under the guidance of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein on the need to provide services to the Iraqi community in Libya and the embassy’s role in overcoming all obstacles they face.

“We will work to develop our bilateral relations and coordinate the exchange of high-level visits between Baghdad and Tripoli in the coming period,’ Al-Sahaf said during the opening ceremony.

‘Reopening the embassy in Libya is to do its role in activating the political and diplomatic work in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly countries as well as providing consular services for the Iraqi community in Libya,’ he added.

Al-Sahaf stressed Iraq’s support for the internationa
