The UN has renewed its firm commitment to holding elections on a consensual constitutional basis as the only way to address and renew the democratic legitimacy of all Libyan institutions.

This came during a press statement held by the spokesman for Secretary –General of UN Farhan Haq, at the permanent headquarter of the international organization in New York.

Meanwhile, the Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric said that ,” the UN regrets that many milestones in the political roadmap of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum which were adopted in Tunisia in November 2020 were lost over the year of 2021 including ,holding the national elections scheduled for December 24th 2021.

“The roadmap specified the end of the transitional period on June 22 on a condition that presidential and parliamentary elections were held by this time ,which did not happen ,and we urge the Libyan leaders not to use the date of June 22 as a tool for political manipulation, and instead, encourage them to redouble their efforts to maintain calm and stability at this critical juncture in Libya’s political transition ” ,he added.
