The GNU Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed its astonishment at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s response regarding the complaint raised by Libyan citizens on the Libyan-Egyptian border, and considered it an inappropriate response and contrary to reality and truth, and an interference in Libyan affairs.

The ministry said in a statement that it had followed the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s response and was surprised by the statements of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson regarding the GNU and the road map for the political dialogue forum signed in Geneva, and considered it an interference in the Libyan issue and an infringement on national sovereignty, given that the political process is Libyans owned, and no state can determine The start or end date of the national political deadlines.

It explained that the Geneva Agreement confirmed the end of the transitional phase by holding elections and making the dates organizational and not binding, and that such statements have serious repercussions on the security and stability of Libya, and that Libya is able, with its leaders and youth, to decide its fate.

In a related context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation praised the United Nations statement and urged it to refrain from using the date of June 22 as a tool for political manipulation. The Foreign Ministry shares the international community regrets over losing the main features of the political roadmap, which is holding elections on last December 24.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had commented on the statement of the Undersecretary of the Libyan Foreign Ministry regarding his meeting with the head of the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Libya, which discussed the Libyan side’s dissatisfaction with the bad way in which Libyan citizens are being treated during their entry and exit from Egyptian lands through the Salloum land border post.

The spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, denied the statements attributed to the head of the Egyptian diplomatic mission in the Libyan side’s statement, and saying that (it is not surprising that some parties try to deal with inaccurate statements in an attempt to distract attention, especially with the date of today, June 22, 2022 is the deadline for the end of the roadmap for the political dialogue forum and the mandate of the Libyan Government of National Unity emanating from it.
