German Capital Hosts Preliminary Meeting on Situation in Libya

Berlin-The German capital on Wednesday hosted a meeting devoted to the conference planned for November on the crisis in Libya. The meeting was attended by representatives from US, France, Britain, Italy, Russia, Egypt, UAE, Arab League and EU. Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement 'there was a deep discussion of opinions with the aim of coming up with proposals to settle the Libyan crisis as soon as possible.' The parties, taking part in the meeting called by Germany, seek to reach a political settlement of the ongoing conflict in Libya, amid UN failure to halt it. German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed that all efforts would be made, to ensure that the situation in Libya did not develop into a proxy war. Speaking before German Parliament, she said Germany would play a role to avoid a proxy war scenario, which she said threatened stability of whole Africa.
