At least four soldiers of Pakistan army, including a senior officer, were killed while three “terrorists” were eliminated by security forces in two different incidents of violence in Pakistan’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said military on Tuesday.

According to Pakistan military’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intense exchange of fire took place between “hardcore terrorists” and security forces in Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan tribal district in KPK.

It confirmed that a senior army officer, Brigadier Mustafa Kamal Barki was killed in the exchange of fire while leading the encounter from the front. The clash left seven security personnel injured.

They “put up a valiant resistance against the terrorists during the encounter and the officer sacrificed his life for peace of the motherland,” said ISPR.

“Defense forces of Pakistan and intelligence agencies pledge to reaffirm and demonstrate firm resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism from every inch of the country,” it added.

In another incident of violence, three soldiers of Pakistan army and as many terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire in KPK’s Dera Ismail Khan district.

According to ISPR, “terrorists” opened fire on a police check post in Khutti area, prompting security forces to immediately block all possible escape routes.

It further said that fleeing terrorists were intercepted in the general area Saggu of DI Khan where an intense exchange of fire killed three terrorists.

Large amounts of weapons and ammunition were also recovered.

“Sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area.

Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR said.

Last Saturday, at least three “terrorists” were killed during an operation by security forces in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province.

The killed terrorists were involved in the incidents of firing, improvised explosive devices along Turbat Awaran Road, and surrounding areas, said military.
