EU Renews Commitment To Offer Support To General Elections On Dec. 24.

Brussels, The European Union has renewed its commitment to offer the needed support for holding elections in Libya on Dec.24, and preserving the ceasefire.

A statement issued by the EU Mission in Libya highlighted the positive atmosphere which prevailed the Berlin 2 Conference, with the participation of the Head of the Government of National Unity and 17 states and 4 organisations.

The EU High Representative of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel said ‘situation in Libya is now far better’, though he said there were two main tasks that have to be implemented.

The first, according to the EU Representative is holding elections by the end of the year, while maintaining the ceasefire is the second and which he said could only be realized by withdrawing all foreign forces from Libya.

The communique issued by the Berlin 2 Conference has endorsed 57 provisions including a commitment to the ban on importing weapons into Libya, refraining for intervening in its affairs, withdrawal of foreign forces from the country and holding the general elections on Dec. 24.
