Bathily: Libyan leaders must meet the aspirations of 2.8 million Libyan voters

Tripoli- UN Secretary-General Special Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, has stressed the need for all leaders to meet the aspirations of 2.8 million Libyan voters, and for the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to engage positively and constructively to reach a constitutional framework for elections as soon as possible.

This came during his meeting in Tripoli Saturday with a group of members of the House of Representatives from the south, east and west to get views on moving the political process forward, according to Bathily tweet on his Twitter account.

Bathily said that during the meeting, many members expressed their deep concerns about the continuation of the political stalemate and its impact on the security, stability and unity of Libya, and they also expressed their desire to unify Libyan institutions as a precondition for getting out of the political stalemate.

The UN envoy welcomed the commitment shown by the deputies towards Libya and finding a way forward towards a solution. He expressed his hope that they would continue to declare their convictions for the benefit of the country and the Libyan people.

Bathily pointed out that his meeting today with a group of members of the House of Representatives from the south, east and west are in line with his continuing consultations with all Libyan political actors.
