Al Kony on International Day for Countering Hate Speech: We are more in need to cut this speech, replace it with culture of love and dialogue.

Presidential Council member Moussa Al-Kony called for rejection of hate speech and hatred among Libyans as a factor of insidiousness and bereavement, which has ravaged lives, destroyed the country, to be replaced with kinship, dialogue, and patriotism.

 Al-Kony, who was who posted a tweet on the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, said the choice by the international community of June 18 as the day to counter hate speech was a significant message to Libyans and the country awaiting this month’s turn, referring to the anticipation of the acceleration of events and dialogues between the Libyan parties on all political, security and community tracks, such as the meetings of the Constitutional Track Committee and the Joint Military Commission (5+5), which are held in Cairo, Egypt, under the auspices of the UN mission, as well as efforts of national reconciliation, which Libyans hope to reach consensuses and solutions that preserve stability and provide for parliamentary and presidential electoral entitlement to get the country out of its current crisis.

In his tweet Al Kony noted that the world dedicated, for the first time June 18, as the international day against hate speech, we find it a message of significance to us, and the country is waiting for the turn of the month – we need to cut off this speech, and it was a factor of infighting and bereavement, ravaged the lives and destroyed the country, to be replaced a speech of kinship and dialogue.

The UN General Assembly announced on July 21, 2021 that June 18th would be annually celebrated as the International Day for Countering Hate Speech.
