16 Kenyan Women Stranded in Libya Seek Help to Return Home

Sixteen Kenyan women who have been camping at the Kenya mission that was closed about four months ago in Tripoli, Libya are seeking help to return home.

Reports from Libya indicate that one of the women gave birth last week and has been living with the others in deplorable conditions at the building formerly used as the Kenyan embassy.

The women had been working in various fields in Tripoli but left their jobs following renewed conflict there.

The women are now seeking the Kenyan government’s help to return home since there is no functional government in Libya.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry is expected to comment on the matter after Capital FM News informed officials about the plight of the women, who fear for their lives due to insecurity posed by armed militia groups in Tripoli.

The Kenyan mission in Tripoli was closed in July following approval of the Cabinet which cited the continued political instability in the country since the ouster of Muammar Gaddafi.
